introduction to the city
Located in the north of Borneo island, Kuching is the capital of the state of Sarawak and is one of the main industrial and commercial centres as well as being a tourist destination. The city is known regionally and nationally for its environmentally friendly policies which have been recognised through being awarded both the inaugural ASEAN ESC Award for Malaysia as well as the inaugural ASEAN Clean Air for Small Cities Certificate of Recognition in 2011. Under the ASEAN ESC Model Cities Programme, North Kuching undertook capacity building to improve their composting activities with both household activities and their centralised composting centre.

By 2020, the City of Kuching North aspires to become an Eco-Friendly City which facilitates Sustainable Development . Kuching aims to become a modern city that is beautiful, green, healthy, economically and culturally vibrant with the people’s participation.
