Introduction to the city
Luang Prabang is a globally renown world heritage site. With the influx of tourists that such designation gives, Luang Prabang faces difficulties in preserving and managing its environment. Nevertheless, the city has made strides in its environment management and has been regionally recognised as the repeated winner of the ASEAN ESC Award for Lao PDR, receiving the award in both 2008 and 2014. Under the ASEAN ESC Model Cities Programme Luang Prabang has implemented wastewater pilot projects as a part of its 2013 long-term Drainage & Sewerage Master Plan.
