introduction to the city

The City of Pursat, located on the southern side of the Tonle Sap Lake, is a small rural city with 80% of the population employed in agriculture.  The city is currently facing difficulties with its solid waste management, particularly concerning the separation and storage of waste prior to collection leading to an increase in the amount of litter in the city.  If left unchecked, this could have a growing detrimental health effects on the population as well as making the city unattractive.  The city joined the ASEAN ESC Model Cities Programme in order to build on its public awareness on the basic principles and practices of sustainable waste management activities.
