The City of Dipolog hosted the Model Cities Year 3 National Conference on 28-30 March 2017. The workshop gathered about 60 representatives from about 20 national ‘Model cities’, including City of Davao, City of Calapan, City of San Carlos, City of Cebu and etc. Thailand’s National Focal Point (NFP) of Model Cities (Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) was also present to share experiences from Thailand.

In line with the Philippines’ policy to more strongly integrate eco-cities and eco-schools regional initiatives, the Philippines National Focal Point for the ASEAN Working Group on Environmental Education (AWGEE) also joined the workshop.

The cities of Calapan, Davao and Dipolog shared the progress of their sustainable city programmes as well as their experiences from the attending to The 8th East Asia Summit High-Level Seminar on Sustainable Cities (8-10 February 2017 at Chiang Rai, Thailand).

In particular, City of Davao presented their model of localising the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs). The city management has conducted an extensive baseline evaluation of the city’s policies and quantitative indicators referring to all 17 of the SDGs – a first among ASEAN’s Model Cities.
